Digitech USB Cassette – Ripping Cassette Tapes to your PC

Posted by Maeve, 15 Jan, 2011 | 9 Comments »

I picked up a very neat little gadget a little while ago – a Digitech USB Cassette deck. With this device I have been able to rip a bunch of old audio cassettes to my computer just by connecting via usb. I did run into a hitch though – my Digitech deck (being second hand) didn’t come with a user manual, and it was not immediately obvious how to get the audio files off the tape and onto the computer. I did a bit of googleing and found a fair few others with the same problem. Now that I’ve worked it out I thought I’d share the simple solution:

  1. Plug your USB Cassette deck into the power point and connect the USB to your computer. It should do the normal ‘installing device software’ which tells you the computer can see the device.
  2. Download and install GoldWave Digital Audio Editor. (You can trial it for free with no restrictions, but if you enjoy the software you should buy a licence.)
  3. Start GoldWave and open a new document, selecting your desired length and file format.
  4. Hit the record button in GoldWave, then run your cassette.
Voila! As the cassette plays the audio will be recorded into GoldWave as a digital audio file. From there you can save the file in an audio format of your choice.
Enjoy.

  7. I was given a Digitech Audio USB Cassette Player Model No.: GE4140 for Christmas and it worked fine but I had to pack it up and travel by air and now the screen on the item lights up but the initial set up screen .. ..: .. .. will not come up.
    Can anyone assist.

Sorry Kenneth, I don’t think yours is the same model discussed in this post because my model has no screen of any kind and was purchased many years ago now… It sounds like your player may have been damaged in transit. I’d suggest contacting the manufacturer or the shop you purchased it from for further support. Good luck.
